I've only just got back in to biking at 36, had 12+ years out. Had kids etc, got a mortgage.. The issue is, its too expensive when your young if you are doing the sensible thing of supporting your future, typically the freedom to do what you like only comes with age when your earning more. This is reflected in my friend group too who are doing what they wanted to do a decade ago but just couldn't afford to.

Here’s a very tip with value. Buy a good car wash soap (I use Chemical Guys) to wash your bike because you can also use it on your vehicle.

All that expense and you don't even get rear suspension. I think I will just get the 500$ full suspension fat tire bike from Walmart. And yes the big tires will feel like more drag when you keep the pressure low and have big knobby treads, raise the pressure with some road/gravel tires and the drag will be much less.

I'm fifty and was mountain biking in the early nineties, grew up with MBUK.. young guys bounce more than us of a mature persuasion.

I rinse it with a hose, dry it, Motorex Bike Shine (Water repellent) on everything except brakes of course, wipe off, finished. I find cleaners unnecessary, all they do is washing out your bearings...

I thought the second one was bad... and then he hit the tree. Ever heard of going from bad to worse. That tree just made it worse. Better to dump a bike and run out of it than get hurt. Ohhhhhh the loop out, Well you were just saying you lift the front wheel, well he lifted too much.

I think the cable issue would be fixed when riding in the "usual" configuration but the other stuff... I'd rather buy a used Suntour and do/let someone do a service on it 😅 In fact I did that. Got an Aion 34 for 45€ with shipping, got the service stuff and there you go, it has good, smooth stanchions (lucky me), just a couple paint chips on the lowers. Freshly serviced decent fork for about 130€ and that's with the "rebuild kit" bought from the official Suntour Site 😅

The sale of bikes with reflectors isn't the way to tackle the issue with bikes riding at night without lights....its really easy to sell new bikes with cheap lights as they cost pennies nowadays....

or if you can't be arsed like me just get a Titanium framed pinion belt drive bike & just change the oil once a year ,they even remind you when it's time .

the Occasioinaly pressure wash dosen´t do anything to your bike as long as you stay of the "importend parts"... i do wash my bike mostly with a gardenhose thou (i don´t own a pressurewasher) and a jet attached to it...a bucket of soapy water (dishsoap) and 2 old Painters Brushes..(one for the chain and the casette) then dry it and relube what needs to be lubed..

I have a 2022 Giant Talon, upgraded parts spent over a thousand dollars and yes I think for a beginner or light to medium xc trail riding and over the road I will never upgrade this for a fullsus.

When I started biking in the 90s there just wasn’t any of these bike parks and as such after a 15-20 year hiatus I just cannot do anything like these jumps. I can only bike and ride. I’m much older now and can’t bring myself to have a go at this stuff. fear is the mind killer.

On my Road bike AXS and Di2 are amazing. But as you said cables are good enough. They work. If I smack an electronic mech on a rock there's the possibility of a £400 bill for replacement. But a cable one is 1/4 of the price.
